LOTTERY DRAWS
New Drum For Marbles (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 11. A machine with a similar action to that of a washing machine will be used when a new marbles system for drawing the Golden Kiwi lotteries comes into use. Within a stainless steel drum now being constructed and with motor attachment to provide thorough agitation. 250.000 marbles made of nylon will be mixed and mixed again before each draw. Provision of the new equipment was in the hands of the Internal Affairs Department, said a spokesman in the Wellington offices of the lottery organiser (Mr N. McArthur). Numbers will be impressed on to the 250,000 marbles, probably in a gold colour. Nylon was chosen as being tougher than wood and more resistant to wear. A rod with claw attachment will draw one marble at a time from the barret Then, as now. the first number drawn will be the winner. The planned marble system was that which operated with the Tattersalls and New South Wales State lotteries, said the spokesman.
