WINGATUI TRIALS
Horses For Vincent “The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN. January 11. Royal News advanced tn favour for the Clare Memorial Handicap, the second leg of the Vincent Jockey Club's double, when he recorded an attractive trial at Wingatui thia morning. The King's Command gelding was galloping easily alongside his stablemate, Rhu (C. Clydesdale), at the end of six furlongs on the course proper in Imin 19 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in 40sec. The trestles were 20 feet out and the track was hard and fast. Royal News Is the second and last foal of the good race mare Social News. He was an impressive winner in maiden class at Wlngatut last month snd he showed promise of quickly making the grade In hack company when he finished third in the high-weight event at Waikouaiti.
A member of C. Millar's team, he will be ridden by R. J. Skelton on Saturday. Rhu was under pressure to stay with her companion, but even so. ft was a good gallop tor a novlceSlrong Gallop Cluny Bill (R. Pledger) worked with dash over five furlongs in imin 5 3-Ssec, and continued a strong gallop over the last three furlongs in 40 sec. The Callander gelding, which is raced by Mr D. MePherson, president of the Beaumont Racing Club, made a fresh start at the Dunedin meeting. He is one of the light-weights in the Ophir Hack Handicap, the first leg of the Vincent double. Coral Maid (T. Powell) and Athenree One 1C- Campbell) sprinted home in 40sec. One of the best efforts on the plough was recorded by Stormat (C. Clydesdale), which did not appear to extend herself when running five furlongs In Imin 6 2-ssec. the last three furlongs in 40 3-ssec. The Sabaean mare waa a laststart winner at Wyndham. She will be heavily supported In the Omakau Hack Handicap. Chattel (R. Mackie) ran half a mile in Siaec, the last three in 41sec. These times were equalled by her stablemate, Golden Glvnnls (B. P. Kennedy]. The Era (G. Mclntyre) and Allabad (B. J. Anderton) sprinted home the last three furlongs tn 38 3-ssec This time was equalled by their stablemates. Mondovi (B. J. Anderton) and Corneil (G. Mclntyre) and by Linton <B. P Kennedy) and Datary (R. O. Cairns). Sudd El Nil (R Mackie) and Half Quid (C. Campbell) worked well over the same ground in 38 4-ssec. •
