STOCKCARTAGE RATES

Banks Peninsula Reduction Rates for the cartage of sheep and lambs from Banks Peninsula to Canterbury freezings works will this year be Id a head less than last year. The rates for the cartage of cattle are unaltered The new rate for sheep and lamb cartage was arrived at after discussion among stock-carting firms. the Banks Peninsula branch of Federated Farmers, and the Transport Department. Stock-cartage firms on Banks Peninsula are now able to carry stock direct to Christchurch, and are not obliged, as formerly, to use the railway. The Transport Department is approaching stock and station firms to see whether they will arrange for the drafting of sheep and lambs earlier in the day on Banks Peninsula, so’ that carriers can get their first loads away earlier This is because the department is anxious that as much stock cartage as possible is done in daylight, rather than have heavy trucks travelling the roads at night.
