Hanmer Baths

Sir, —As a part-time resident and taxpayer I wish along with your correspondents to protest strongly against the proposals for the Hanmer baths recently promulgated by the Health Department. Who ever is responsible for these schemes is completely out of touch with the wishes and desires of the greatest majority of the patrons of the men’s pool, as I have found out by questioning all and sundry since these ideas were first mooted That some improvements are needed and desirable cannot be denied, especially for the women's pool, but to suggest closing the men’s pool and to embark on the unwanted scheme of mixed bathing, is showing callous indifference to the many who find enjoyment and relaxation under the present set-up —Yours, etc., L. A PEINE. January 10, 1962.
