Dominion Bowling Championships
Sir,—l wonder what “Unbiassed” expects for nothing? Bowling is the one sport where the players do all the paying. It is obvious that “Unbiassed” has little appreciation of the organisation necessary to run a national tournament, in which I understand bowlers in excess of 2000 are taking part. Club members provide bowling facilities for their own enjoyment and do not provide a stadium for the benefit of the public. Anyone who saw the condition of the surrounds of the greens at United after the tournament four years ago would not welcome the use of their greens for headquarters for such an event after the spectators had trampled down everything within the fences in their endeavour to see something for nothing. It must have taken fully 12 months for the surrounds to recover. It is time the controlling body considered making a charge for admittance which would help reduce the entry fees, which the players meet to cover all | the expenses.—Yours, etc.. CLUB MEMBER. January 9, 1962.
