ATTITUDE TO ASIA
‘N.Z. Insularity Unhealthy’ (NX. Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 9. Western Europe had a greater understanding of Asia than New Zealand and Australia, an executive of the World Assembly of Youth, Mr N. Krishnaswamy, said in Auckland tonight. Mr Krishnaswamy is making his third short visit to New Zealand from the assembly headquarters in Brussels. The insular attitude of New Zealanders was not a nealthy attitude in a shrinking world, he said. ‘Any youth in New Zealand or Australia who ignores Asia i» living in a fool's paradise,” said Mr Krishnaswamy. “New Zealand, whether it likes it or not. is going to be affected by what happens in Asia." Mr Khrishnaswamy wants New Zealand youth organisations to form a national youth committee affiliation to the World Assembly. The assembly, a nonpolitical organisation assisted financially by the agencies of the United Nations, has 55 member countries. Mr Krishnaswamy will leave for Wellington and Christchurch tomorrow for talks with student and youth organisation leaders.
