(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, January 8. The two Jugoslav tennis players. B Jovanovic. N. Pilic and the German Davis Cup player. L. Buding, are now doubtful starters in the Auckland international invitation tournament which begins at Stanley street courts on Monday.
The three overseas players, who are at present competing in the Australian championships, may return home at the end of this tournament, according to Mr G. C Reid, a member of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association management committee who has just returned from Australia. The Auckland association had been advised earlier by letter that the three players would definitely compete and that they would also be available for a short tour of New Zealand immediately after.
"In the event of them not being able to compete the Auckland representative in Australia. Mr Esca Stephens, will arrange for further leading Australian players to take their place.” said Mr E G Adams, the Auckland president.
Mr Adams said that R. Taylor (England) and Miss Jennifer Trewby. J. Newcombe. K Fletcher and O. Davidson (Australia) had accepted their tickets for their flight from Sydney. Davidson is a promising Victorian junior and Newcombe and Fletcher are among the top eight players in Australia.
The American women’s singles champion. Miss Darlene Hard, was still definitely coming, said Mr Adams.
