Sportsman’s Notebook BIG HOCKEY PROGRAMME FOR N.Z. AT AHMEDABAD
A heavy programme covering two weeks is being undertaken by the New Zealand hockey team which is competing in the international tournament at Ahmedabad. The tournament started on Saturday, and the New Zealanders will play their final match on January 20. Ten teams have entered in the tournament—lndia, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Holland, Indonesia, Egypt, Malaya, Japan and Belgium. India, New Zealand, and Australia were among the major place-getters in the Rome Olympic Games last year, finishing second, fifth, and sixth respectively.
New Zealand’s first match on Saturday resulted in a 1-all draw with Germany, a result which must have been disappointing to the New Zealanders. New Zealand beat Germany in Rome. Yesterday’s match was against Japan, which New Zealand beat narrowly (2-0 and 2-1) in two tests played in the Dominion last season. New Zealand's other matches will be:—January 10, v. Belgium; January 11, v. Australia; January 14, v. India; January 16, v. Egypt; January 17, v. Indonesia: January 19. v. Malaya; January 20. v. Holland. ¥ ¥ ¥
include volley ball, Rugby union football, boxing, canoe sailing, table tennis, indoor basketball, women’s basketball (seven-a-side), and swimming. These games will feature on the programme only if at least four territories send in entries.
