Migrants From Two Liners

Two ships bringing British migrants to New Zealand have berthed at Wellington, the Southern Cross yesterday and the Orcades on Sunday, and 121 of the migrants will settle in the South Island. Thirty migrants from the Orcades came south in the Hinemoa yesterday and 72 who disembarked from the Southern Cross arrived in Christchurch by air, as sufficient berths were not available in the inter-island steamer last night. A scheduled N.A.C. Viscount flight and a chartered Friendship brought them south. Seventeen more migrants will arrive in the inter-island steamer this morning. Twenty-seven migrants will go to Ashburton; Greymouth, Dunedin, and Invercargill. The rest will remain in or near Christchurch.
