(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright)

ALGIERS, Januarj’ 8

Police have imposed a ban on all traffic in Algiers’ main thoroughfares today to clear the streets for rapid movement of security forces.

The right-wing European extremist Secret Army Organisation (0.A.5.) has called on Europeans to stage a twohour general strike in protest at alleged police interference in hospitals. OA.S. pamphlets yesterday also announced a 24-hour strike by doctors due to have started at midnight l»st night as a similar protest. Police have tightened up security measures at hospitals after escapes by suspected O.A.S. members under treatment. Nineteen persons were killed and 34 wounded throughout Algeria yesterday in sporadic violence involving both the O.A.S. and the insurgent Moslem nationalists. the British United Press reported. Authorities announced that 111 people were killed in Algeria last week. This included 40 Europeans and 71 Moslems. In the same period, 240

were wounded —70 Europeans and 170 Moslems. Bomb In Flat In Paris, the Latin Quarter flat of the left-wing writer, Jean-Paul Sartre, was shattered last night by a plastic bomb. There was considerable damage but no injuries. Plastic bombs are the trademark of right-wing terrorists fighting to keep Algeria under French rule. Sartre was not at home when the bomb went off.
