Feature Sprint Won By All Red

All Red led all the way for a narrow but convincing win in the Electric Handicap, a feature sprint event on the second day of the Greymouth Trotting Club’s mid-summer meeting on Saturday.

All Red, a six-year-old Red Emperor gelding owned by Mr 0. A, Cadwallader and trained for him at Templeton by C. R. Berkett, beat Stand In by half a length in a four-horse finish.

Only a head separated Stand In and the third horse, Commonwealth, and Navua was three-quarters Of a length away fourth. A length back Heatomount came fifth, just beating Terako Queen, winner of the corresponding event on Thursday. Broderick Bay was seventh, beating Morsel and No Comment.

Broderick Bay, No Comment and Morsel broke at toe start. All Red and Commonwealth got out first. At toe mile All Red had a length on Commonwealth, followed by Stand In, Heatomount and Terako Queen. All Red kept her advantage past the half-mile, and coming to toe straight was still clear of Commonwealth, Stand In and Heathmount.

In spite of determined challenges from toe other three, she kept her advantage to the post.

Easy Wine

Medieval gathered tn the pacemaker. Lady Verna, two furlongs from horn® in the first race, the Runanga Handicap. and went on to an easy six-length win. Regal Trick wa* second and Lady Verna weakened to third two lengths away. Medieval began well from 36 yards and was fifth after a furlong, Lady Verna took over after two furlongs and was soon about five lengths clear. At the half-mile she was still three lengths clear of Medieval and Regal Trick, but was beginning to tire. Medieval ran alongside Lady Verna at the three furlongs and went clear soon afterwards. He came to the straight trotting easily and won as he liked. The best of the others behind the placegetters was Adjustment, which finished fourth 15 lengths behind Lady Verna. The rest straggled to at intervals. Gleaning and Huntingdon broke at the start and Young Henry broke after two furlongs. Medieval overcame a rehandicap of 36 yard* without much difficulty to win the second race for trotters, the County Handicap, by two and a half lengths from Gleaning. Lady Verna was third three and a half lengths away, well clear of Asralight. Medieval began quickly from 60 yards and gradually made ground over the first mile to be third, although still a long way from the leaders, at the half-mile. He was hard behind Gleaning and Lady Verna on the home turn, and, although he skipped for a few strides half-way down the straight, he finished solidly and reached the front about 30 yards from the pest. Gleaning battled on for second after trailing the pacey maker. Lady Verna, most of the way. Lady Verna, which took over at the end of three furlongs, still looked to be going easily coming to the straight but weakened over the last 100 yards. Real Kilt wa* pulled up with three furlong* to go. Shot dear Meadow Glow wa* turned around at the start of the New Year Handicap. Gay Tartan broke up. Singing Lad was the first out but going round the back Sara Black went past him. At the mile Sara Black was clear of Singing Lad and Sinbad. Silver Mica, Colours Flying and Vignon were next. Sara Black carried on past the half-mile and was still to front coining to the atraight. although die wa* Oring. Meadow Jewel shot into the lead as soon as they straightened up and went on to win by three length* and a half. In a'close battle for the minor places Vivac took second from Sara Black by half a head. A neck away Seriatim was fourth. Morano Boy, patiently driven by M. Holmes, won the Dominion Handicap, beating the favourite. Stowaway, by three lengths. Morano Boy was well back to the field and one out from the fence with a mile to go, but he gradually improved to be second into the straight and he shot into a clear lead 50 yard* from the post Stowaway was fifth going past the mile. She was still in the third line with a round to go, but improved to be third to the straight just behind Morano Boy. She finished well but had no ehance with the winner.

Third, five lengths behind Stowaway, wa* the pacemaker, Bob Hanover. Bob Hanover shook off Sea Chase at the two furlongs and was two or three lengths clear rounding the turn, but stopped quickly over the last 100 yards, Lightning Lil. a place-getter on flie first day, was fourth two lenrth* and a half away. She beat her stablemate, Contribute, by a nose.

Gave No Chance

Anahera. which could manage no better than sixth in the Probationary Handicap on Thursday, gave nothing else a chance in the first division of the Oobson Handicap. Anahera shot to the front from the start, was never leas than seven lengths clear and won with ease by 16 lengths. Borodin finished strongly from the middle of the field for second, beating Semi Circle by two lengths and a half. Four lengths away Lucky Surprise battled on for fourth after being handy all the way. Idleman was next, followed by Chirp. Vivacis won the second division narrowly but decisively from Runfree and Rosalind Globe. Vivacis lost a little ground at the start, but gradually regained it and was fourth at the half-mile. He took over with three furlongs to go, led into the straight and battled on_ gamely.

Runfree also battled on well. He was back in the middle of the field most of the way. but found a gap on the Inside turning for home. He finished powerfully, but was too late. Lucky Surprise finished on for fourth, clear of the pacemaker, Perfect Scott. Young Peg was sixth and Gareen and Meadow Gay next.
