N.Z. Ahead In Match Against Country

(N Z .P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) KIMBERLEY (Cape Province), January 6. The New Zealand cricket tourists finished the first day of their two-day match against the South African Country Districts team at Kimberley today 78 runs ahead, with all their second-innings wickets in hand.

On a lively wicket they had been dismissed for 169 in their first innings, with the pace bowlers J. Nunan and A. Rennie doing most of the damage. They took three Wickels each. The tourists hit back quickly, however, and at one stage six Country District wickets were down for 22 runs—four of them falling for only four runs. Then a seventh-wicket stand of 39 in 63 minutes between E. Eaglestone and D. Lang foUowed by a bright undefeated 22 in 19 minuter from Nunan boosted the total to 97. In eight minutes before the close tile New Zealanders scored six runs in their second innings without loss. Scores: NEW ZEALAND First Innings J Sparling, b Nunan .. 7 G.
