LAW SOCIETY BUILDING
Plans Approved In Wellington
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 5. Proposals for an eightstorey Law Society building in Waring Taylor street, Wellington, involved a total cost of about £250,000, were approved recently. A recent special meeting of the Wellington District Law Society approved the proposals for the erection and occupation of the building by the New Zealand Law Society and the Wellington district society.
The meeting was told there already had been indications of a keen demand for space in the proposed building. A ceiling price of £210.000 was fixed for the building contract. land cost was put at £25.000. and architects’ fees at £15.000, making a total of £250,000.
It was decided the society should be content with one floor at present for its own use. If the standing and building committees approved. a penthouse would be added to the eight storeys. The meeting also approved an increase in the annual practising fees of £5. starting this year. The increase initially will be allocated to the capital requirements of the building. Consideration will be given to the position of employee members of the society when the levy would be payable by the member personally.
An amendment moved on behalf of Palmerston North members for a postal ballot on the subject was defeated. Details of the meeting are given in the New Zealand Law Journal.
