DOUKHOBORS TO MOVE

Land Option In Brazil VANCOUVER. Three thousand Canadian “Sons of Freedom” Doukhobors—an offshoot of the Russian Orthodox Church—are planning a mass migration to Brazil. Their decision to move is a climax to years of defying Canadian laws. At one stage the children were forcibly separated from their parents and educated under police guard. Their disagreement with the Federal Government in Ottawa and the British Columbian Provincial Government has many times erupted into bombings, house burnings and nude parades. Four, years ago the Doukhobors tried to resettle in Siberia, but the Soviet Union rejected them as immigrants because of their violence record in Canada. The Doukhobors have now taken an option on 5000 acres of land in Brazil’s Santa Catarina State. The two Governments in Canada have indicated they will help finance the move providing members of the sect sign a document renouncing their Canadian citizenship and promise never to return—(C.N.A.)
