Former Constable Convicted

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 5.

Mr W. J. Meade. S.M., today fined William Woolnough, a former constable, £2O for stealing a quantity of tomatoes valued at 7s 6d. He refused an application by accused’s counsel, Mr M. Robinson, for suppression of name. Woolnough pleaded not guilty to the charge. The magistrate said that although the amount was comparatively small, by reason of other circumstances the charge was of a very serious nature indeed.

Mr Robinson said Woolnough was married, with four children. He had now resigned from the police force after being in it for six years. GOLFERS A day in the country and a game of golf at Methven. 12hole course in excellent condition. Lovely green fairways and green fees very reasonable. 3s 6d per round,’ss a day. —Advt.
