Promising Junior Tennis Player
VOR the first time in many years, sufficient entries were received to enable the holding of B grade events in conjunction with the Canterbury lawn tennis championships last week. The B grade men’s singles event was well won by one of the youngest players in the field—R. McCutcheon of the Barrington club McCutcheon’s steady and sensible play gained him victories over several older heads whc had played good senior tennis in past seasons. That he was able to overcome these crafty players speaks volumes for this junior’s promise. McCutcheon is one of i number of promising youngster* in the Barrington senior reserve team. He had been a member of the Slazenger Shield team, which has this season reached the semifinals. McCutcheon was also an entrant in the championships proper, and in the first round of the men’s singles he beat J. Cadenhead. Cadenhead is
a farmer University senior men’s grade player, now living on the West Coast. On these performances, McCutcheon must be given a good chance of doing well in the junior championship meetings which will be held later this month.
