Wednesday (Before Mr E. A. Lee. S.M.) CREDIT BY FRAUD

Charged with obtaining credit of 3s by fraud on December 30, Peter Edward Alexander, aged 27, a labourer, was remanded to Sunnyside Hospital for observation until February 2, under provisions of the Mental Health Act.

Sergeant B. D. Read said the accused had a meal valued at 3s at a milk bar in Colombo street, at 5.45 pm. He left w’ithout paying, and returned at 10.10 p.m. and ordered another meal When asked about payment for the previous meal he said he would pay later. The police were called and the accused was found to have no money or possessions. He said he was starving as he had not eaten for three day’s. Police inquiries, however, showed that he had been staying with a relative and had received regular meals.
