Parfitt, the 25-year-old Middlesex left-hander, hit a bright 112 for M.C.C. against a Services XI at Calcutta today to strengthen his claims for a place in the English team to meet India in the fourth test on Saturday. M.C.C., after losing both openers for 32. scored 339 for nine at nearly 70 an hour during an entertaining opening day's play. After reaching his 50 in 122 minutes. Parfitt went wholeheartedly into attack. His second tour century included 15 fours, and he was finally out after 205 minutes when he gave an easy catch to mid-wicket off the med-ium-paced Dani. Parfitt’s innings included 16 fours Parfitt and E. R. Dexter <5B) took runs freely off all except Dani, and this pair put on 93 in 73 minutes for the fourth wicket. R. W Barber scored 58 and B. R Knight 24. Ramesh took four for 54 and Dani two for 51.
