Diefenbaker’s Main Plank OTTAWA (Canada), A General Election is ex. pected in Canada within the next six months. The Prime Minister, Mr J. Diefenbaker, who leads the Progressive Conservative Party, says it will be “any time after the end of March.” May or June are the most likely months. The New Democratic Party, a left-wing' merger of socialist politicos and the trade unions which was born last summer, is expected to upset the Conservatives’ pre. sent huge majority in the House of Commons. 205 of the 265 seats The Liberal Party holds 51, and the Socialists nine. Mr Diefenibaker, who led the Conservatives to victory in 1957 after 22 years of Liberal rule, has indicated his main election plank will be reform of the 102-seat Senate Chamber which last session of Parliament rejected two government bills. Canadian Senators are appointed for life by the government.
