Dispute Over Atoll

President Kennedy and the British Prime Minister (Mr Macmillan) are expected to discuss a friendly diplomatic dispute when they meet in Bermuda on Thursday and Friday. Both the United States and Britain claim authority over Christmas Island, the largest atoll in the Pacific. Jurisdiction over the island probably would be brought up at Bermuda because the United States would like to use the 22-square-mile atoll for atomic testing if the United States decided to resume nuclear explosions above ground, United Press International reported today. »
