SEWER WORKS PROTECTION

When officers made an inspection of sewerage and drainage contract works on a Sunday in October to check on the adequacy of precautions taken by contractors to lighting and barricading works they found that conditions generally were satisfactory, the chief engineer (operations), Mr H. F. Page, reported to the Christchurch Drainage Board. In some cases some lamps were found to be not alight or more lamps were considered desirable. In only one case were the circumstances to other ways not as satisfactory as thought necessary. All the contractors concerned were written to reminding them of the need to observe and maintain adequate precautionary measures.
