Mr Holyoake Commends 1962 L.N.I.C.E.F. Campaign

WELLINGTON, Dec. 19 The freedom from hunger campaign that would be held in New Zealand next June would give the public a further opportunity to demonstrate its support for U.N.1.CEJ’.'s objectives, said the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake > tonight in a statement. He released the text of a message that he had sent to the executive director of the United Nations children's fund congratulating the fund on the fifteenth anniversary of its establishment in December. 1946. Mr Holyoake said that he understood that a number of congratulatory messages would be considered by the executive when it met in New York in a few’ days under the chairmanship of Mr W. A. E. Green, the New Zealand representative. “U.NJ.CXI.F. has a very high reputation in this country for the quality of its work in promoting better standards of life for underprivileged ch.ldren.” said Mr Holyoake. •’New’ Zealanders have given practical proof of this by making substantial donations towards the costs of its operations. Everyone w’ill I am sure, join with me in extending good wishes to the fund as it reaches this milestone in its history." Mr Holyoake said that the ret proceeds of the appeal in New Zealand next June would be devoted to nutrition projects in food deficient countries under the auspices of U.N.I.C.E.F. and the Food and Agriculture Organisation. “I am confident of a generous response to this imaginative appeal," he said Congratulating the fund on its 15 years of dedicated service. Mr Holyoake said the worthiness of the fund's objectives had been matched by the efficiency of its operation. which had justified the confidence placed in its man-

agement by the governments and private people who had supported it. "May I extend very best wishes for the continued success of the fund's work in the years ahead,” he added.
