STOREMEN’S AWARD

Wage Increase Granted Minimum award rates of pay for storemen and packers are increased by 5s lOd a week under a new award issued by the Arbitration Court. New weekly rates are £l2 15s lOd for storemen and packers over the age of 21, £l2 19s lOd for sole storemen and packers, and £l2 19s lOd for drug store and drug warehouse storemen and packers. Wages for junior storemen and packers are increased by from 4s to 5s a week, and the rate for casual workers is increased by IJd to 6s 4jd an hour. A new clause in the award provides that workers who are not due for an annual holiday when the employers' premises are closed for a period in the year shall be paid one-twenty-fifth of their earnings to that date in lieu of two weeks’ pay. The award came into force on November 23, 1961, in respect of rates of wages, and on December 15 in respect of other provisions. It will remain in force until May 22, 1963.
