BROMLEY AREA PATHS
Council Report On Delay With a view.- to providing a path to the Bromley School as soon as possible, the city engineer (Mr E. Somers) would again discuss with the Christchurch Drainage Board the provision of kerbs, channels, and paths in the Bromley district, the works committee reported to the City Council. The committee was commenting on a petition presented by Cr. A. S. Hollander and signed by Bromley residents and parents of Children attending toe Bromley School. In 1959, toe school committee had been advised that it was proposed to do the work, subject to the availability of contractors, the committee reported. The priority of the work was subsequently deferred by the council’s decision to concentrate first on kerbs and channels where the disposal of sullage had become a problem. It had been found that main stormwater outfalls would be necessary, and the scheme proposals were referred to the Drainage Board early in 1961. To avoid installing outfalls immediately, it was decided to proceed with the paths only as soon as toe board was able to confirm the levels. Because of staff shortages the board was unable to complete its share of the work. Asphalt paths must be constructed with due regard to the levels of future kerbs, the committee -said. The board and its officers had co-operated willingly on this and all other drainage matters. but in the - particular location a considerable amount of design work by toe board’s stormwater section was unavoidable before the council's scheme levels could be confirmed.
