FAREWELL TO TEACHER

Mr W. J. Cartwright Honoured A special farewell function was held at the Sign of the Tafcahe by the North Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute for Mr W. Cartwright. who is retiring at the end of this year. Mr Cartwright is a former Dominion president of the Institute and has also been president of the local branch on two occasions, once in 1940 and again in 1950. He has been headmaster of the Elmwood Normal School and prominent in many facets of education. Attending the function were 13 past presidents at the North Canterbury branch of the institute. After the main ceremony, the present president (Mr A. C. Arneson) presided over an informal function during which several of the part president* paid tribute to Mr and his work.
