PUBLIC SERVICE PAYMENTS

Two Fortnightly Sums (NZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. Instead of the usual midDecember four weeks’ pay—including two weeks in advance—at once for public servants throughout New Zealand, payments this year are being made in two fortnightly sums, today and next week. The reason for this, an officer of the Public Service Commission said today, was in accordance with the Treasury's new machinery which was set to compute Public Service salaries on a fortnightly basis. It was much more Convenient and economical on the new machinery to have two fortnightly payments computed than to reset it for a four weeks’ payment just for one occasion.
