30 YEARS AT ART UNIONS

Mrs Lena Booth Retires (N.Z. Press Association} WELLINGTON, Dec. 12. Mrs Lena Booth, who has spent 30 years assisting at the drawing of art unions, retired today at the drawing of the last art union. She will make one last appearance at the drawing of the first Golden Kiwi lottery on Monday. Mrs Booth’s task during 30 years of art union draws has been to find the corresponding butt as each number is called. With machinelike precision, her hand hovers over the thousands of tickets and darts unerringly to the required butt. “You get to know your way around after a while,” she said today. A spry little woman with a twinkle in her eye. Mrs Booth now plans to spend her time in her garden at Ngaio. But after so many years she suspects the fascination may draw her back occasionally—just to watch.
