ARCHITECTS’ BURSARIES
Education Board Staff Eligible (From Our Own Heporfer) WELLINGTON, Dec. 12. •‘The architectural staffs of education board* will now be eligible for architectural bursaries similar to those available to Ministry of Works employees.” said the Minister of Education (Mr Tennent). ”1 hope the introduction of these bursaries will assist education boards to recruit architectural staff and will provide a source of qualified architects who will, in future years, contribute materially to the success of our school building programme." Five bursaries for full-time study at the School of Architecture will be granted in the first year of the scheme. Two additional bursaries will be granted each subsequent rear. Each bursary will provide a subsistence allowance, payment of tuition and college fees, and a textbook allowance for a period of up to five years' full-time study. The courses covered will be those for tile Diploma of Architecture and the degree of Bachelor of Architecture. Bursars will be required to sign a bond guaranteeing that they will remain in the education service for a period of five years from the termination of theii study leave. Each education board will be inviting applications shortly for the five bursaries to be granted in the 1962 academic year. Final selection will be made by the education boards’ employment review committee.
