BURNSIDE SALE

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. December 12. A yarding of fat cattle at the Burnside sale today numbering 256, against 260 last sale, appeared to be a little below requirements. In the entry were some of the best and heaviest cattle seen at this centre for some time. The sale opened at values £1 to £2 above last sale, and these values were maintained. Cows and heifers were also in demand. In the early stages the entry of both adult fat sheep and lambs appeared to be on the light side. However, with the late arrival of many road consignments. the total in both sections varied little from last week. Adult sheep figures showed a small increase from 2968 up to 3194. Overall values for all classes varied a little from last week’s rates, although the entry of hoggets appeared smaller and there were larger numbers of older ewes. A point which has been noticeable recently in all grades is the slight variation in value between the earlier shorn sheep and the class just recently off shears. Only a slight drop was recorded in the total of fat lambs—B9l, against 905. Another good selection of top grade lambs was offered and realised rates on a par with the last auction.
