INQUEST ON MALTBY
Resumption On Friday (NZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 12. The inquest into the death of a 30-year-old Englishman. John Frederick Maltby, will be held in Wellington before the Coroner (Mr P. Keesing» on Friday afternoon. Maltby’s body was found washed ashore at Island Bay on Sunday. September 24. this year, after the mysterious disappearance of a 16-year-old Lower Hutt model. Miss Wendy Catherine Mayes. Miss Mayes was last seen alive when she left a city coffee bar with a man. later identified as Maltby, on the evening of Monday, September 18. Her disappearance gave rise to the Wellington district’s biggest manhunt. Maltby himself was last seen alive in the early hours of Thursday. September 21. running from his Edinburgh terrace home into the scrub behind Melrose. Evidence of identification of Maltby’s body was given before Mr Keesing on September 26 and adjourned sine die The search for Miss Mayes lasted almost one month and employed more than 1200 men.
