REBEL PLOT SMASHED

Arms Seized In Guatemala (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) GUATEMALA CITY, December 11. The Government an. nounced today that it had smashed a revolutionary plot with the arrest of an undisclosed number of persons and seizure of arms, munitions, uniforms and vehicles. The Government said the political opposition planned to use the war material “to commit assassinations and attain power through violent means.” The announcement fol. lowed a Government warning that it would sternly repress disorders stemming from planned protests against what the opposition called the “rigged” December elections. A communique also announced the arrest of various persons accused of breaking Into electoral court headquarters last, night and burning ballot boxes. The Opposition said the Government burned them before they could be checked. The Government countercharged that the Opposition burned them to create a climate of political unrest.
