U.N. FORCE IN CONGO

More Local Troops (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) NEW YORK, Dec. 12. United Nations troops in the Congo are outnumbered by Katanga and Orientale province forces, United Press International reported. The United Nations has a total of 15.733 troops against an estimated 21.000 to 22,000 under the control of President Tshombe and the Orientale province leader, Mr Antoine Gizenga. The United Nations forces include 12,802 combat troops and 605 airmen. The rest are staff and administrative personnel. U.P.I. reported also that there were about 15 jet fighters in the United Nations command, supplied by India, Ethiopia and Sweden. President Tshombe’s forces are understood to total 12.000 to 13.000, while Mr Gizenga had about 9000 troops.
