TAUPATA AGROUND

Stranded On Bar The coastal motor-vessel Taupata. outward bound from Kaiapoi to Wellington, ran aground on the bar at the mouth of the Waimakariri river at 7.30 p.m. yesterday. The Inter-Island Shipping Company, owner of the Taupata, will use another of its vessels, the Paroto, to try to tow the Taupata off the bar early this morning. The Paroto is at present berthed at Kaiapoi. The Taupata has about 190 tons of cargo for Wellington, of which 100 tons was loaded at Kaiapoi. The Picton ran aground in almost the same spot in May and was later refloated. The Taupata. 268 tons gross, is the largest ship to use the port of Kaiapoi.
