U.S. Roller Skaters To Tour
'T'HE four accomplished ■* skaters who will represent the United States at the 1962 Pacific International amateur roller skating championships at Canterbury Court from December 30 to January 6 are all from the Los Angeles area of California. They are Douglas Eley, William Madigan, Eddie Perales, and Miss Judy Nance. Madigan won the United States senior men’s singles championship this year and Perales is his country’s senior speed champion. He has also triumphed at the Pacific Coast regional meeting every year since 1956 and has won the Coast 26-mile marathon on two occasions.
The other two members of the team, Eley and Miss Nance, won the American senior free-skating pairs
championship this year. Eley took up the sport at the age of nine and has developed into one of the most proficient spinners in skating. His pairs partner, Miss Nance, started skating at the age of 12 and has won several regional and national titles. She holds a gold medal for singles free skating. Both come from Long Beach and their hobbies are ice skating and water ski-ing. Mucn glamour will be attached to the championships through the holding of the Pacific roller skating “queen” contest, in which Miss Nance will be a competitor The winner will be crowned on the opening night by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) who is the patron of the New Zealand Roller Skating Association.
