A NOVEL TREAT FOR WEST COAST CHILDREN.—Children at the break-up of the Kumara Convent School enjoy a ride in a sleigh drawn by a two-year-old stag owned by Mr P. Duffy, a Kumara storekeeper. In company with Mr J. Calder, Mr Duffy caught the red deer as a fawn after he had shot its mother in the bush. He bottle-fed the stag, which is very tame and will follow its owner anywhere. The sleigh was made by another Kumara resident, Mr 3. Thomson.
