Sir John Hunt, said yesterday that the answer to irresponsible youth was to trust them, train them and give than responsibility. “There is ample proof of this in countries where society is not affluent, and where economic and political circumstances are more nakedly critical," he said. Sir John, who led the British Everest Expedition in 1953. was reading a paper to the Royal Society of Arts. “I am as Sick of hearing the question debated. ’What is wrong with modern youth?’ as the young must be themselves.” he said. “The frustration, aimlessness and apathy of many of our own youngsters derive from three main related sources: contempt and rejection of much poor precept in adult society, the spurious soporifics offered them as methods of spending their spare time and their earnings. and. most of all. the lack of any ideals or causes to struggle for.” Batsman Retires. The former Australian test opening batsman, G. Stevens, of Adelaide. yesterday announced his retirement from all cricket for business reasons. Dec. 7.)
