Importance Of Packaging

Mr G. Laurence, who was New Zealand Trade Commissioner in New York when New Zealand’s meat exports to the United States rose from £300,000 to more than £2om, yesterday emphasised the importance of the appearance and packaging of ex. ports. Mr Laurence will leave early in February to become New Zealand’s first Trade Commissioner in Vancouver. He was Trade Commissioner in New York from 1950 to 1960 and has since been acting-director of the stand, ards division of C.e Department of Industries and Commerce in Wellington Vancouver would become, as an important trading centre and the port of entry into Canada, a most vital link for New Zealand's exports if New Zealand’s trading future was going to turn more towards the Pacific with less emphasis on the United Kingdom and Europe. Mr Laurence said. "We have to see what the Canadians want, rather than what we want to give them.” M' Laurence said. He was given morning tea yesterday by members of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association. The president (Mr R. H. Stewart) in wishing Mr Laurence well, emphasised that New Zealand must have more exports.
