QUEENSLAND OIL STRIKE

An oil well in Queensland, Australia, flowed ait the rate of 250 barrels a day during a recent test, it was announced in Los Angeles toThe announcement, made by the Union Oil Company of California and its partners, Kern County Land Company and Australian Oil and Gas Corporation, said the exploratory well flowed 48 gravity crude oil at the rate of 250 barrels a day during a 74 minute drillstem test. The well is located 200 miles west of Brisbane. It is known as Union-Kern-Aogmoonie No. 1. It was the third of three such wells drilled so far. lhe first produced oil at the rate of 60 barrels a day. Hie second was abandoned. The discovery was encouratfing. but it was too early as yet to evaluate its potential, the companies said. The drtitatem test was made at an interval from 5816 feet to 5925 feet. The well began flowing after 19 minutes of the test period and flowed at the rate of 500 barrels a day, half of which was oil and half water.
