Christchurch Retains Redpath Shield

DUNEDIN, December 3. Interest was maintained right to the end when the Christchurch Bowling Centre successfully defended the Redpath Shield in the annual match with the Dunedin centre at the Kaituna Club, Dunedin, on Saturday. Christchurch had a comfortable lead, 170-145. when the eight rinks had completed the morning’s play, but during the afternoon the home team rallied and scores were level tor most of the time. The afternoon’s play resulted Christchurch 163. Dunedin 159, the final score being Christchurch 333. Dunedin 304. The sun shone brilliantly throughout the day. as the 32 bowlers from each centre contested the shield. The standard of bowling was high, and there were some good heads. The former New Zealand champion. S. J. Sneddon (Christchurch), led his rink to a resounding 32-11 win over L. Hickman’s four in the morning’s play. But the rink failed to maintain this form, and lost. 18-21, to J. Barron’s team during the afternoon. The Dunedin four skipped by W. Dee had the Dunedin’s centre’s best win of the morning, 25-19. over another former champion, C. L. Spearman. The home team's best win of
the day came in the afternoon, when J. Hargreaves’s four beat C G. Lofley’s team, 26-13. The Empire Gaines representative, E. H.
