Cressbrook, Jan (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, December 3. Cressbrook, a four-year-old gelding by Spring Morning from Preferable, easily won the Borough Trot Handicap at Greymouth on Saturday, beating the unlucky Royal Attack and Bob Hanover. Driven by T. Thompson, Cressbrook gradually improved fronj fourth at the half-mile to be second, into the straight and a clear leader ICO yards from the post He won by two lengths from Royal Attack, which was forced wide on the turn. Charles Junior and Silver Medoro broke at the start, Royal Attack. Russian Time and Count Medoro were slow and Judarry tried to trot. Bob Hanover was in front soon after the start and going out of the back straight was c'ear of Subador, Flying Dieman, Glebe Boy, Cressbrook and Royal Attack and Young Donald. Bob Hanover shot well clear at the half-mile and going down the back straight for the second time he was about six or seven lengths in front of Subador. Flying Dieman. Cressbrook and Royal Attack, which ran wide on the bend out of the front straight Turning for' home Bob Hanover was still in front, but Cressbrook was right on his wheel and Royal Attack was handy wide out. Cressbrook finished strongly to win by two lengths from Royal Attack. Bob Hanover was third a length away. Vivace was the closest of the others, all well beaten. Easy for Jan Jan won the second trot, the Stewards' Handicap, by a length and a half, beating Sinbad and Anahera. Sinbad and Kenora got the best of a rather ragged start in which the favourite. Royal Attack, was very slow. Kenora broke after a couple of furlongs and went back through the field, checking a number of runners. This left Sinbad in the lead, from Antifee. Bold John and Jan with a round to go. At the half-mile Bold John had dropped back a couple of places but Sinbad was still in front, from Antifee, Jan and Anahera. which had been gradually making up her handicap of 36 yards. Sinbad led Jan around the home turn, with Anahera three wide outside them. A furlong out it was anybody’s race, but Jan finished determinedly down the middle and went clear over the last halffuclong Sinbad. battled on for second, beating Anahera by a length. Antifee was fourth a neck back, just beating Bold John. A long gap separated Bold John ana Shanray. the closest of the others. The favourite Royal Attack, which began very slowly and was checked after two furlongs. was last. Kenora and Geordie were pulled up.
