MARATHON IN JAPAN

J. L. Julian Seventh (N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) TOKYO, Dec. 3. J. L. Julian, of New Zealand. finished seventh in the fifteenth annual Asahi international marathon at Kuguoka, southern Japan, today. The race was won by P. Kantorek (Czechoslovakia), whose time was 2hr 22min ssec. E. Olcsanen (Finland) was second, in 2hr 22min 18sec, and N. Sadanaga (Japan) third In 2hr 22min 19sec. P. Wilkinson (Britain), the fourth overseas runner competing, finished fourth, in 2hr 23min 34sec. Julian’s time was 2hr 25min 43 sec. The race was held in fine and cool weather. After 16 kilometres, six runners, including Julian, led the field. But the New Zealander • was the first of the six to falter, and after 35 kilometres he had dropped back 25 yards.
