O’BRIEN TO RETURN

Release From U.N. Service (N .Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, December 3. Dr. Conor O’Brien, whose release from the United Nations service as the Secre-tary-General’s representative in Katanga was announced on Friday, has resigned from the Irish Foreign Service, the Irish United Nations delegate (Mr Frederick Boland) said last night. Reuter reported from Dublin yesterday that the Irish Foreign Minister (Mr Frank Aiken) said Dr. O'Brien wrote to him the previous week asking him to seek Dr. O’Brien’s return to the Irish Department of External Affairs. Dr. O’Brien, who became a controversial figure after the United Nations military operation in Katanga in September, will leave the United Nations service next Friday, according to a statement last Friday on behalf of the Sec-retary-General (U Thant).
