CLUTHA RIVER SCHEME
Flood Protection Vote (N2 Press Association) DUNEDIN, Nov. 30. By almost two votes to one today the landholders of the Clutha river delta endorsed the Otago Catchment Board's £1,365.000 plan for protection of the area from flooding. This was the result of a loan poll which, in effect, means the flood protection scheme will proceed. The poll was a question to landowners as to whether a loan of £225.000 should be raised to cover the local share of the cost of the work. A total of 772 votes were cast in favour, with 427 against—a majority in favour of 245. Fifty-eight per cent, of those eligible went to the poll. Although some 84 special votes have to be counted, the result cannot be affected.
