QUEEN’S GUIDE AWARD
Presentation On Monday The . first Queen’s Guide award to be made to a girl in the Fitzgerald guide district, will be presented to Miss D. E. Collins, aged 15, by the Canterbury Provincial Commissioner of Girl Guides (Mrs J. H, Powell) at a special Christmas campfire meeting on Monday. Between 60 and 80 guides from the Richmond, Red Shield, St. Chad’s, artd Linwood groups, which comprise the Fitzgerald section, are expected to attend the eampfire meeting, which will be organised by the St. Chad's group on a section at the corner of McGregors and Ruru roads. Miss Collins, a pupil Of Avonside Girls’ High School, has been a member of the Richmond guide group for five years. The numerous tests which have to be passed for the Queen’s Guide award range from examinations on knowledge of the Commonwealth to organising and leading camping excursions. The candidate must be qualified before she is 16 years old. The campfire meeting will begin between 6 p.m. and 6.33 p.m. Songs will be sung and items will be presented by members of each group. First class guides will form a guard of honour for Mrs Powell.
