Papanui Road Crossing

Sir, —Your article on the Papanui road-Mansfield avenue crossing was most timely. As a daily user of this crossing I think I can speak with some authority. The majority of motorists comply with the warning lights, but far too many accelerate as they approach and - so create many an unnecessary hazard. At 10.25 this morning one of our prominent businessmen was missed by a road speedster by a mere hair’s breadth and his yell could be heard tor quite a distance. What is needed is a regular inspector on duty there occasionally. A few fines would soon reduce the trouble and so save perhaps a valuable life.—Yours, etc., APPROACHING 80. November 29, 1961.
