New South Wales beat Western Australia on the first innings by the comfortable margin of 42 runs in the Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground yesterday, m spite of a challenging innings of 81 by the mercurial West Indian. K. Kanhai. Western Australia was dismissed for 176 runs, although Kanhai had received stubborn support from some of the middle batsmen.
