£75,000 BLOCK OF FLATS FOR CITY
Plans for a six-storey block of flats to be erected on the corner of Cambridge terrace and Montreal street have been announced by the‘contractors and promoters, A. Williamson Construction Company, Ltd. The block will be known as .Cambridge Court and the cost oi the project is expected to be about £75,000. A building permit for the flats was issued at the last meeting of the Christchurch City Council. It is intended to start construction in ■ February, and it is hoped to complete the flats in October. The 15 flats’will be the first of their type in Christchurch, in that they will be owned by the occupiers. They will cost an average of £4BOO each. Each flat will have one double bedroom, a single bedroom, a lounge and dining area, a kitchen and a bathroom. A washing machine, waste disposal unit.
electric range and electric heating will also be provided in each fiat On the ground floor there will be seven garages, stores for the tenants, an entrance foyer, service room and lift lobby. On each of the other five floors there will be three apartments. The lift will be supplemented by two semienclosed stairways. When the building is completed the grounds wiU be fully landscaped, lawns will be put down, and shrubs planted. Clothes lines will be provided at the rear of the building. The building itself will be constructed of reinforced concrete and concrete blocks. Wide use will be made of glass. In addition to the lawns and shrubs in front of the building, there will be a sealed area for off-street parking. The architect is Mr D. E. Donniitiorne and the selling agents for the project are Baker Bros. (Estate Agents). Ltd;
