“Only One Boy In Three” “It is disquieting to find that about only one boy in three reaches the sixth forms.” said Brother Maurice, director of Xavier College, in his report at the annual prize-giving ceremony of the college last evening. “We deplore the attitude of those parents who allow the whims and fancies of the adolescent to influence them in the all-important decision of when to leave school,*’ said Brother Maurice. He said that secondary education was not to be evaluated in terms of a “stop-gap” until a boy was 15, or as the ‘‘wages or salary” vocational end On the subject of’ accredlung, Brother Maurice said that a suitable combination of accrediting and examination was probably the best gauge of achievement. It was undeniable, he said, that examinations were a powerful iopentive to regular and systematic work
