Varied Year Reported

An endeavour had beer, made to present a varied programme at meetings during the year, said the president of the Christchurch Federated Business and Professional Women’s Club (Mis: S. Lilly) in her annual re port. “The international nigh panel and the impressions o recent visitors to Japan Hong Kong and other countries kept the internationa’ theme before us,” she said. On one evening the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) spoke of personalities influencing his life. Other talks covered the United Nations Association, first aid, television, gardening. the Consumer Service, health, investments and the stock exchange. A treasures and hobbies evening brought to light some interesting articles and histories. Conference activities were reported by the five members of the club who attended the twelfth biennial conference of the federation in Wanganui. The club held its annual meeting last evening. Almost 50 members attended. Miss B. H. Wood, on behalf of the treasurer (Miss W. Murray) said the club was financially sound, with the reserve fund standing at £7O more than last year. Also collected during the year had been nearly £4O towards the club’s social service work—more than during the previous financial year. Before the meeting, a visitor from Scotland, Mrs Ella Reid, founder and president of the Grangemouth Business and Professional Women’s Club, was welcomed by the Christchurch president (Miss S. Lilly). Mrs Reid is sepnding six months in New Zealand during a world tour. Mrs Reid spoke briefly on the composition and work of her own club, the largest in Scotland. Members agreed that the elub continue its affiliation with the local branches of the National Council of Women and the United Nations Association. Representatives elected were:—Miss S. Lilly and Miss C. Dennis (National Council of Women); Miss G. Walker and Miss C. Dennis (United Nations Association). Officers elected were:—President. Miss S. Lilly; vicepresident, Mrs N. Mclntosh; correspondence secretary. Miss C. Dennis: minute secretary. Miss L. Purchas; treasurer, Miss W. Murray; conveners, catering, Miss E Selby, membership, Miss G Crisp, programme, Mrs N. Mclntosh, publicity and bulletin, Miss B. H. Wood, rooms. Miss M Catchpole, social service. Miss T. Esdridge; visitor to the sick. Miss L Rubino.
