HARMONIC SOCIETY

Oratorio" Bach’* “Christmas Oratorio,” which will be performed by the Christchurch Harmonic Society at the I Civic Theatre on Saturday I evening, is not really an I oratorio at all, but a succes I sion of six cantatas originally I intended to be performed on

, different days. However the custom ot performing the six sections as a complete work has become firmly established. The tenor, Edmund Bohan, is the only soloist from Christchurch. The others are Elizabeth Hellawell (soprano) who recently sang Tosca for tho New Zealand Opera Company, Honor McKellar (mezzo-soprano) and Frank Malthus (bass). William Hawkey will conduct the performance in which the accompaniment will be provided by the John " Ritchie String Orchestra.
